I N T R O D U C T I O N

The YA RD AGE PR O
®
COMPACT 80 0 emits invisi ble, ey esafe,
infrared energy pulses. Sophisticated circui try and a high speed clock are used to inst antaneo u s l y
calculate distances, by measuri ng the time it takes for each pulse to travel f rom the rangefinder,
to the target, and back .
The rangin g ac c u r acy of the YA RD AGE PRO
®
COMPACT 800 is plus or mi nus tw o yard s / m eters
under most ci rcumsta nces. The u nit will onl y display e ven numb ers. The max imum rang e of
the instru ment d epends o n the r eflec t i v i t y of the target . The ma ximum distance for m os t
o b j ects is 800 yards / 720 meter s wh ile fo r high ly re flecti ve ob jects the m aximum is
9 30 yards / 850 met ers. No te: Yo u will ge t both l onger an d short er maxim um dist ances dependin g
on the reflect ive propert ies o f the parti cular targe t and the enviro nmenta l cond itions at t he t ime
the object is being dista nced to.
The color , surfa ce finis h, siz e and sh ape of the tar get all effect reflec t i v i t y and range. The bri ghter
the col or, the longer the range . Red is high ly re flecti ve, for e xample, and all ows longer rang es
than the colo r bla ck, wh ich is the least refle ctive color. A sh iny f inish provid es mor e rang e tha n
a dull o ne. A smal l targ et is more diffic ult t o ran ge tha n a larger target . The angl e to the ta rget
also has an effe ct. Shoot ing to a targe t at a 90 degre e angle (wh ere the tar get surfa ce is
perpendic ular t o the flight path of t he emi tted energy pulse s) pro vides good range while a ste ep
angle on the other hand, provides limited ra nging. In addition, lighting conditi ons (e.g. the amo u n t
of sunlig ht) wi ll affe ct the rang ing cap abilit ies of the u nit. Th e less light (e.g. over cast sk ies) t he
f a rther t he u nit’s maxi mum range will be. Conve rsely, very sun ny d ays w ill decrea se th e un it’s
m aximum r ange.
