PHOTOGRAPHY FUNCTIONS
When using the viewfinder to take a
picture in Macro mode, the field visible
through the viewfinder does not match
the field actually photographed. Because
the viewfinder and lens are in different
positions. Use the LCD monitor to take
pictures in Macro mode.

Select Macro mode to take close-up shots.
1Set the Mode dial to “B”, “À”, “N”, “M”, “<
or “>”.
2Press the “e(d)” button. The “e” appears on
the LCD monitor indicating that you can take
close-up shots.
To cancel Macro mode, press the “e(d)”
button again.

Approx. 7.5 cm to 80 cm (3.0 in. to 2.6 ft.)

Any of the following cancels Macro mode:
iChanging the Mode dial to “U”, “.”, “/” or “r” mode
iTurning the camera off

If the flash is too bright, use flash brightness adjustment
(P.64).

Use a tripod to prevent camera shake when shooting in the
dark (when “|” appears).

Once the LCD monitor is turned on it cannot be turned off in
this mode.

When canceling Macro mode, the LCD monitor remains on.
!
Selecting AF (MULTI), the focusing position remains near the
center of the LCD monitor.

The flash setting changes each time you press the
d(c)” button. The last displayed setting is the
selected mode.

If the flash is used in dusty conditions or when it is snowing,
white dots may appear in the image due to flash reflecting off
the dust particles or snowflakes. Use Suppressed flash mode
to fix the problem.

The flash charging time may increase when the batteries are
low on charge.

When taking a picture using the flash, the image may
disappear and go dark briefly due to flash charging. The
viewfinder lamp blinks orange during charging.

The available flash modes are limited depending on the
Photography mode selected (P.37).

The flash fires several times (pre-flashes and the main flash).

When pressing the shutter button down halfway, “
appears on the LCD monitor before the flash fires.

Choose from 5 flash modes according to the type of shot.
1Set the Mode dial to “B”, “U”, “.”, “/”, “N”,
M”, “<”, or “>” mode.
2Press the Flash pop-up button to pop-up the flash.
hEffective flash range (û:AUTO)
Wide-angle: approx. 30 cm to 3.7 m
(1.0 ft. to 12.1 ft.)
Telephoto: approx. 60 cm to 1.9 m
(2.0 ft. to 6.2 ft.)

If the shutter speed is set to a speed faster than 1/1000 sec.,
the image may appear dark even if the flash is used.
!
When the flash pops up, the image may disappear and go
dark briefly due to flash charging. The viewfinder lamp blinks
orange during charging.
