AUTOMATIC FLIGHT CONTROL SYSTEM
FLIGHT DIRECTOR MODES
Flightdirector modes are normally selected independently for the pitch and rollaxes. Unless other wise
specied,allmodekeysarealternateaction(i.e.,presson,pressoff).Intheabsenceofspecicmodeselection,
the flight director reverts to the default pitch and/or roll modes(s).
Armed modes are annunciated in white and active in green or magenta (if the mode reference is provided by
theGPSnavigationfunction)intheAFCSStatusBox.Undernormaloperation,whenthecontrolfortheactive
ightdirectormode ispressed,the ightdirectorreverts tothedefault mode(s)forthe axis(es).Automatic
transition from armed to active mode is indicated by the white armed mode annunciation moving to the active
modeeldandashingfor5seconds.
Ifthe information required to compute a ight director mode becomes invalid or unavailable, the ight
directorautomaticallyrevertstothedefaultmodeforthataxis.Aashingyellowmodeannunciationindicates
lossofsensor(ADC)ornavigationdata(VOR,LOC,GPS,VNV,SBAS)requiredtocomputecommands.When
suchalossoccurs,thesystemautomaticallybeginstorollthewingslevel(entersRollHoldMode)ormaintain
thepitchangle (entersPitch HoldMode), dependingonthe affectedaxis. Theashing annunciationstops
whentheaffectedmodekeyispressedoranothermodefortheaxisisselected.After5seconds, if no action is
taken,theashingannunciationstopsandtheightdirectorentersthedefaultmodefortheaffectedaxis.

Theightdirectorisautomaticallydisablediftheattitudeinformationrequiredtocomputethedefaultight
director modes becomes invalid or unavailable.
FLIGHT DIRECTOR SELECTION
TheGFC700ightdirectorcanbecoupled toeitherthepilot-sideorcopilot-sidePFD datausingtheCPL
Key.Whenthepilot-sideorcopilot-sidedatasourceischanged,theverticalandlateralmodesreverttodefault.
The autopilot follows the selected flight director only, indicated by an arrow pointing toward either the pilot or
copilotside,inthecenteroftheAFCSStatusBox.
The currently active flight director may be turned off and the Command Bars removed from the displays
by pressing the active FDKeyagain. Pressing theFD Key for the inactive flight director only removes the
Command Bars from the corresponding display. The FD key for the selected flight director is disabled when
the autopilot is engaged.
