TheFlightPathMarker(FPM),alsoknown asaVelocityVector,isdisplayedonthePFDatgroundspeeds
above30knots.TheFPMdepictstheapproximateprojectedpathoftheaircraftaccounting forwindspeed
and direction relative to the three-dimensional terrain display.
TheFPMisalways availablewhentheSynthetic Terrainfeatureisinoperation. TheFPMrepresentsthe
direction of the flight path as it relates to the terrain and obstacles on the display, while the airplane symbol
represents the aircraft heading.
TheFPMworksinconjunctionwiththePathwaysfeaturetoassistthepilotinmaintainingdesiredaltitudes
anddirectionwhen navigatinga ightplan. When oncourse andaltitude theFPM isalignedinside the
pathwayboxesasshown(Figure8-7).
TheFPMmayalsobeusedtoidentifyapossibleconictwiththeaircraftightpathanddistantterrainor
obstacles.Displayedterrainorobstaclesintheaircraft’sightpathextendingabovetheFPMcouldindicate
apotentialconict, evenbefore analert isissued byTAWS.However, decisionsregardingterrain and/or
obstacleavoidanceshouldnotbemadeusingonlytheFPM.

ZERO PITCH LINE
The Zero Pitch Line is drawn completely across the display and represents the aircraft attitude with respect
tothehorizon. Itmaynot alignwiththeterrain horizon,particularlywhen theterrainis mountainousor
when the aircraft is flown at high altitudes.
