NETUsers ￿le

The NETUsers ￿le con tains sets of information, called user pro￿les, that are associated with each ALLBASE/NET user. The NETUsers ￿le resides on the serv er. It is created when the ￿rst user pro￿le is en tered.

NetWare

A networking product originally from No vell that is used in the PC en vironment. NetWare/iX is Hewlett-P ackard Company's port of Novell Inc.'s NetWare for UNIX.

node name

The \NS node name" is used b y NS/Net/IPC and de￿ned through NMMGR on MPE/iX or through SAM on HP-UX. NS uses probe, probe-pro xy and the network-directory to resolve NS name-to-IP-address. Note that the NETUtil prompts \Serv er Node Name" and \Client Node Name" do not imply \NS node name."

object

A structure created and stored in an ALLBASE/SQL DBEn vironment. The most common objects are tables, views, indexes, and groups.

owner

A DBEUserID, a group name, or a class name. Ownership applies to database objects

such as tables, views, indexes, and authorization groups. The o wner can drop the object or transfer it to another o wner.

preprocessor

A component of ALLBASE/SQL that con verts an embedded SQL program into a source ￿le for input to a compiler in one of four programming languages: C, COBOL, FORTRAN, and Pascal.

server

A system that pro vides a speci￿c service or services to other systems (the clien ts). With ALLBASE/NET, the serv er contains the remote ALLBASE/SQL DBEn vironment that is accessed by the application on the clien t. In some cases, a computer can act as both a client and a serv er. See also client.

user pro￿le

A set of information that iden ti￿es each ALLBASE/NET user. User pro￿les are con tained in the NETUsers ￿le on the serv er. They are created and main tained by the system administrator using NETUtil.
