HP common-slot power supplies

Many ProLiant G6 servers have common power slots that accommodate a range of power supplies. These universal, hot-pluggable power supplies allow administrators to “right-size” the power supply for the server configuration. Using HP common-slot power supplies, you can reduce the number of spares in inventory. There are five HP common slot power supplies (efficiency at 50% load):

∙460W Common Slot Power Supply with up to 92% efficiency

∙750W Common Slot Power Supply with up to 92% efficiency

∙1200W Common Slot Power Supply with up to 90% efficiency

∙1200W Common Slot Platinum Power Supply with up to 94% efficiency

∙1200W -48VDC Common Slot Power Supply with up to 90% efficiency

These power supplies meet Climate Savers Gold qualifications and 80 PLUS® specifications. The AC power supplies work with input voltages from 100 to 240 volts, making them functional worldwide. The HP Power Advisor utility helps administrators select the right power supply for each server’s configuration.

Infrastructure management technologies

HP Insight Control

HP Insight Control offers a set of capabilities that simplify server management through the entire lifecycle of ProLiant G6 servers (300 series and above) and ProLiant G6 server blades. Insight Control, which is based on HP Systems Insight Manager, provides comprehensive system health, remote control, vulnerability scanning, patch management, flexible deployment, virtual machine management, and power management. Insight Control components deliver lifecycle management functions through a single installer and a simplified licensing mechanism.

Within Insight Control, the Virtual Machine Management capability provides central management and control of VMware ESX Server, Microsoft Windows 2008 Server Hyper-V, and Citrix XenServer virtualized environments. Features include the following:

∙showing physical host-to-virtual machine associations

∙easy identification of virtual machines (VMs) or host servers reaching high CPU, memory, or disk utilization levels

∙highly flexible move capabilities

∙migration between dissimilar host resources

∙back up, template, and alternate host capabilities that enable VM restoration on any available host

HP Insight Control for Linux

HP Insight Control for Linux (IC-LX) is an integrated solution to manage enterprise and cluster Linux environments. IC-LX integrates a robust feature set of open source and HP technologies for discovery, imaging and provisioning, deployment, firmware updates, monitoring, remote access, virtualization, and general lifecycle management. Open source software, such as Nagios® and XenServer™, are fully integrated and auto-configured, and can be used immediately. Multi-system scaling, thermal and power management, and direct-to-hardware control complement full lifecycle management.
