When configuring the Oracle 10g client, use the tnsnames.ora_template file as a template instead of directly editing the tnsnames.ora file. The tnsnames.ora_template file can be found on the root directory of the DVD. The tnsnames.ora_template file contains instruction on how to correctly edit the tnsnames.ora file.
