EXPOSURE— MODE

Manual

In manual exposure, the user controls both aperture and shutter speed. The shutter can be held open indefinitely for a long time-exposure (bulb) or shutter speed set to a fixed value between thirty and 1/16,000 seconds. Aperture can be set to values between the minimum and maximum for the lens. Using the electronic analog exposure display in the viewfinder or the control panel on top of the camera as your guide, you can adjust exposure to suit shooting conditions and the task at hand.

To take photographs in manual exposure mode:

1Pressing the MODE button, rotate the main command dial until is displayed in the control panel on top of the camera.

Lens Aperture Ring

If the lens aperture ring has not been set to the minimum aperture, the viewfinder and control

panel on top of the camera will show a blinking , and the shutter release will be disabled. This does not apply in the case of type G lenses, which do not have an aperture ring.

Non-CPU Lenses

If aperture-priority auto is selected when a non-CPU lens is attached, the aperture display in

the viewfinder and the control panel on top of the camera will show to indicate that aperture must be set manually using the lens aperture ring.

Long Time-Exposures

At a shutter-speed setting of , the shutter will remain open as long as the shutter- release button is held down. Note that if the shutter is open for more than approximately one second at any setting, noise may appear in the final photograph.
