WebOS 10.0 Application Guide
Chapter 8: Application Redirection 205
212777-A, February 2002
The network needs a solution that addresses the following key concerns:
nThe solution must be readily scalable
nThe administrator should not need to reconfigure all the clients browsers to use proxy
servers.
Figure 8-2 Network with Web Cache Redirection
Adding an Alteon Web switch with optional Layer 4 software addresses these issues:
nWeb cache servers can be added or removed dynamically without interrupting services.
nPerformance is improved by balancing the cached Web request load across multiple serv-
ers. More servers can be added at any time to increase processing power.
nThe proxy is transparent to the client.
nFrames that are not associated with HTTP requests are normally passed to the router.

Additional Application Redirection Options

Application redirection can be used in combination with other Layer 4 options, such as load
balancing metrics, health checks, real server group backups, and more. See Additional Server
Load Balancing Options on page 128 for details.
