BVarious ways of playback
Playing tracks repeatedly
You can play tracks repeatedly in three ways — all repeat, single repeat, and shuffle repeat.
1 Press PLAYMODE/DISPLAY(2SEC) repeatedly to select one of the three play modes, as follows.

•Do not touch the internal disc directly. Forcing the shutter open may damage the internal disc.
•Do not place the cartridge where it will be subjected to light, temperature, moisture or dust.
•Do not affix the label outside of the specified area on the MD. Make sure the label is placed within the recessed space on the disc.
On cleaning•After wiping the player casing with a soft cloth slightly moistened with water, wipe it again with a dry cloth. Do not use any type of abrasive pad, scouring powder or solvent such as alcohol or benzene as it may mar the finish of the casing.
•Wipe the disc cartridge with a dry cloth to remove dirt.
•Dust on the lens may prevent the unit from operating properly. Be sure to close the disc compartment lid after inserting or ejecting an MD.
•To maintain good sound quality, use a soft cloth to clean the plugs of the headphones/earphones. A dirty plug may cause noise or intermittent breaks in the sound during playback.

To emphasize bass (DIGITAL MEGABASS)
The DIGITAL MEGABASS function intensifies low frequency sound for richer quality audio reproduction.

Each time you press DIGITAL MEGABASS, the indication in the display changes as follows:

1 Press AVLS(2SEC) (Automatic Volume Limiter System) for 2 seconds or more.
“AVLS” appears in the display.
The volume is kept at a moderate level, even if you try to turn the volume above the limit (“ ”).
“AVLS” flashes when the volume level exceeds the limit.
To cancel the AVLS functionPress AVLS(2SEC) for 2 seconds or more to cause “AVLS” to disappear from the display.

Precautions
On safety•Do not carry or store the dry battery in the same place with metallic objects such as coins, key rings, or necklaces. This may cause a
•Incorrect battery usage may lead to leakage of battery fluid or bursting batteries. To prevent such accidents, observe the following precautions:
—Install batteries with the + and – poles aligned correctly.
—When the player is not to be used for long time, be sure to remove the battery.
•If a battery leak should develop, carefully and thoroughly wipe away battery fluid from the battery compartment before inserting new one.
Handling•Do not drop or give a bump the player. This may cause the player to malfunction.
•Do not pull the headphones/earphones cords.
•Do not place the player in the following places:
—An extremely hot place (over 60°C (140°F))
—A place exposed to direct sunlight or near a heater
—In a car with the windows rolled up (especially in the summer)
—In a damp place such as a bathroom
—Near a source of electromagnetic fields such as a magnet, speaker, or TV
—In a dusty place
•If you experience an allergic reaction to the supplied headphones/ earphones, stop using them at once and consult a doctor or a Sony service center.
On heatHeat may build up in the player if it is used for an extended period of time. This, however, is not a malfunction.
On mechanical noiseThe player gives out mechanical noise while operating, which is caused by the

On the headphones/earphonesRoad safetyDo not use headphones/earphones while driving, cycling, or operating any motorized vehicle. It may create a traffic hazard and is illegal in many areas. It can also be potentially dangerous to play your player at high volume while walking, especially at pedestrian crossings. You should exercise extreme caution or discontinue use in potentially hazardous situations.
Preventing hearing damageAvoid using headphones/earphones at high volume. Hearing experts advise against continuous, loud and extended play. If you experience a ringing in your ears, reduce the volume or discontinue use.
Caring for othersKeep the volume at a moderate level. This will allow you to hear outside sounds and to be considerate of the people around you.

Sound has a lot of static.•Strong magnetism from a television or such device is interfering with operation.
b Move the player away from the source of strong magnetism.
No sound comes through the headphones/earphones.•The headphones/earphones plug is not firmly connected.

—Dans une voiture à fenêtre fermée (en particulier en été)
—A un endroit humide, une salle de bains par exemple
—Près d’une source de champ électromagnétique, comme un aimant, des enceintes ou un téléviseur

Concentration de chaleurDe la chaleur peut se concentrer dans le lecteur s’il est utilisé pendant une période prolongée. Mais il ne s’agit pas d’une anomalie.
Bruit du mécanismeLe lecteur émet un bruit mécanique pendant le fonctionnement, causé par le système d’économie d’énergie du lecteur. Ce n’est pas une anomalie.
InstallationN’utilisez pas le lecteur à un emplacement où il sera soumis à une lumière, des températures, une humidité ou des vibrations excessives.
EcouteursRègles de sécurité sur la routeN’utilisez pas les écouteurs pendant la conduite, à bicyclette ou pendant la conduite d’un véhicule motorisé. Cela pourrait provoquer un danger pour la circulation et est illégal dans certaines régions. Il peut aussi être potentiellement dangereux d’écouter votre lecteur à volume élevé pendant la marche, en particulier sur les passages cloutés. Faites très attention ou bien arrêtez son emploi dans une situation potentiellement dangereuse.
Prévention des dommages auditifsEviter d’utiliser les écouteurs à volume élevé. Les experts de l’ouïe déconseillent l’utilisation continue, à volume élevé pendant une période prolongée. En cas de bourdonnement d’oreilles, réduisez le volume ou arrêtez l’utilisation.

Cartouches de MiniDisc•Ne touchez pas directement le disque à l’intérieur. Forcer le volet peut endommager le disque à l’intérieur.
•Ne laisser pas la cartouche à un endroit où elle sera soumise à la lumière, la chaleur, l’humidité ou la poussière.
•Ne collez pas d’autocollants en dehors de la zone spécifiée sur les MD. Vérifiez que l’étiquette est placée dans la zone en retrait sur le disque.
Entretien•Après le nettoyage du coffret du lecteur avec un chiffon doux légèrement humidifié d’eau, essuyez avec un chiffon sec. N’utilisez pas de tampon abrasif, de poudre à récurer ou de solvant tel qu’alcool ou benzine, car ils pourraient abîmer la finition.
•Essuyez la cartouche des disques avec un chiffon sec pour éliminer la saleté.
•La poussière sur la lentille peut empêcher le bon fonctionnement du lecteur. Refermez bien le couvercle du logement du disque après l’insertion ou l’éjection d’un MD.

bRéinsérez ou remplacez le disque.
•Pendant le fonctionnement, le lecteur a été soumis à un choc mécanique, trop d’électricité statique, une tension anormale causée par la foudre etc.

3 Insérez la pile.
Le MD n’est pas lu normalement.•Le lecteur est réglé au mode de répétition (“ ” est apparaît sur l’affichage).
b Appuyez plusieurs fois sur PLAYMODE/DISPLAY(2SEC)
jusqu’à la disparition de “ ”, puis démarrez la lecture.
La lecture du MD est impossible à partir de la première plage.•La lecture du disque s’est arrêtée avant l’arrivée à la dernière plage.
b Appuyez plusieurs fois sur .ou éjectez et réinsérez le MD pour revenir au début du disque, et reprenez la lecture après le contrôle du numéro de plage sur l’affichage.
Le son lu est sauté.•Le lecteur est soumis à des vibrations continues. b
•Une plage très courte peut provoquer un saut de lecture.
Le son est très parasité.•Le magnétisme puissant d’un téléviseur ou d’un dispositif similaire interfère avec le fonctionnement.
b Eloignez le lecteur de la source de magnétisme puissante.
Aucun son ne sort des écouteurs.•La fiche des écouteurs est mal branchée. b
•Le volume est faible.
b Ajustez le volume en pressant VOL
•AVLS est activé.
b Appuyez 2 secondes au moins sur AVLS(2SEC) pour supprimer “AVLS” de l’affichage.
