Note: During this time, the Sprint PCS Connection Manager message area displays “Updating Hardware” and the Go button is disabled.

Once the USB modem is provisioned successfully, it will start IOTA (Internet Over-the-Air) Activation to update your user profile from the Sprint PCS network settings. If the USB modem is not provisioned or out of the Sprint coverage area, the Sprint PCS Vision User Interface will display “Sprint PCS Vision: Searching for service...”.

Inserting and Removing the Sprint Mobile Broadband USB Modem

Inserting the Sprint Mobile Broadband USB Modem

Before you connect the device, you must first install Sprint PCS Connection Manager (see page 16 in this section). Once you have completed the software installation procedure, you may insert your device into your computer’s USB port.

Note: An external USB Y-shaped extension cable is included for your convenience. The external USB Y-shaped cable is not required for use but is recommended for increased performance. The cable allows you to use two USB ports to provide the device with up to 1mA of power when needed. The Y-shaped cable should be needed only in fringe areas.

In addition to the increased power, the RF interference issues may be reduced because the cable provides up to three feet of distance between your device and computer. You computer creates RF interference that affects the signal. You can improve the performance of the device by using the USB extension cable and moving the device away from the computer. See “Using the External USB Cable” on page 21.
