cabinets, but w hen SWR relea sed the origi -
nal Redhead in 1988, it signaled a transi tion
between eras. In a sense, much of what char-
acterizes contemporary high-end bass combo
designs—high fidelity preamps with pre c i s e
signal shaping, gig-worthy power, and multi-
driver cabinets—began with the Re dhead. It
quickly became the hi p amp to ha ve, an d
while subseque nt years fo und other m anu-
f a c t u rers enteri ng the incre asingly compet -
itive category and diminishing the Redhead’s
dominan ce, t he R edhead is still one of a
handful of semin al amp desig ns.
