TEMPERATURE READINGS
Temperature readings vary from person to person. Although there is no one “normal” temperature reading, a
temperature, taken underarm, ranging between 96 - 99°F is considered normal. A rectal temperature is generally 2°
higher and an oral temperature will be 1° higher.
The best method to determine your child’s normal temperature is to use the thermometer when they are feeling
well. Record the temperature twice a day (early morning and late afternoon). Take the average of the two
temperatures. This is considered your child’s normal body temperature. Any variation from it may indicate some
sort of illness and you should consult your pediatrician.
BEFORE USE
Your VICKS®Underarm Digital Thermometer is designed specifically for underarm use. It is
recommended that for 15 minutes prior to use, your child should avoid eating or drinking
any liquids, physical activity, or bathing.
OPERATING YOUR VICKS®UNDERARM
DIGITAL THERMOMETER
Press the On/Off button to activate the thermometer. A beep will sound and the
display will come on. The display will first show the LCD display test (Fig. 1) and then
show the last reading. After 5 seconds, the display will be in the ready mode (Fig. 2).
UNDERARM (AXILLARY) USE
1. Wipe the underarm with a towel.
2. Place the ComfortDisc™ under the arm so the sensor is touching the skin and position the arm next to the body
(Fig. 3). With a young child, it is sometimes helpful to hug the child to keep their arm next to their body. This
helps hold the thermometer steady and ensures that the room air does not affect the reading.
3. When the peak temperature is reached (approximately 30 seconds), a
series of 10 beeps will sound and the “°F” sign will stop flashing. The
tremperature is now ready to read and will not change when
thermometer is removed.
Remember that this method produces a temperature about 1° lower
than a temperature taken orally and about 2° lower than rectal.
4. Turn the thermometer off by pressing the On/Off button. If you forget
to turn it off, the thermometer will automatically turn off after
approximately 9 minutes.
5. Wash the thermometer as recommended.
TO RECALL THE LAST TEMPERATURE
Press and hold on/off button for 1.5 seconds and the last reading will show in the display with the letter “M” shown
under the degree sign for approximately 3 seconds.
