LUBRICATION

Tractor PTO Gearbox Lubrication

Checking Gearbox Oil Level

The tractor PTO gearbox is permanently lubricated (oil filled) and sealed requiring no scheduled lubrica- tion. However, the gearbox oil seals should be checked every 25 hours for indication of oil leaks. If evidence of an oil leak is noted, replace the oil seal and relubricate the gearbox. The gearbox can be drained by removing the plug on the gearbox cover. Replace plug and refill gearbox using 5 fl. oz. (15cl) of SAE E.P. (Extreme Pressure) 90W oil.

With the deck removed, the tractor unit may need to be tilted forward (resting on deck support arms) for positioning purposes, to add oil into the PTO gear- box.

CAUTION

Do not leave the mower in this position for an extended period of time to prevent oil from draining into the heads and causing possible engine damage.

Transaxle Lubrication

The transaxle oil lubrication is SAE 20W-50 en- gine oil.

Inspect both transaxle cases after every 100 hours of operation for visible leaks. If a leak is de- tected, the oil level should be checked through the breather port on top of the transaxle. Using a clean rod, measure the oil level by placing the rod in the fill port and bottoming out the rod on the bottom of the case. Remove the rod and measure the oil level on the rod. It should measure 4 to 4-1/4 in. (10 to 10.75 cm) total depth of oil. DO NOT overfill.

Steering Linkage and PTO Linkage Lubrication

The steering and PTO linkage are located at the rear of the tractor below the body. The grease and oil points should be lubricated every 25 hours.
