STEP 6: CONNECT AND CHARGE BATTERY (Electric Start Model)

The battery (N, Figure 2-5) is located behind the debris shield (O). Lift and tilt the debris shield forward to access the battery.

DANGER

Wet conditions can cause an electric shock hazard during battery charging. Avoid wet conditions when charging battery.

Charging the battery with improper equipment could cause a battery explo- sion. Use only the battery charger sup- plied with the unit. The engine must be shut off and the spark plug wire discon- nected before charging the battery.

Failure to comply could result in per- sonal injury or property damage.

1. Firmly connect terminal (P, Figure 2-6) on end of wires leading from battery to receptacle (R) on end of wires leading from wiring harness.

2.Connect the terminal (S, Figure 2-7) on the supplied battery charger to the recharging line receptacle (T) on the wiring harness (located behind key switch).

3.Plug the charger box (U) into a grounded, 120V wall outlet. Initially charge the battery for 24 hours before using the electric starter. After charging, unplug the charger box (U) from the wall outlet and then disconnect the terminal

(S) from the receptacle (T).
