FRONT PANEL

The front panel from left to right features a rotary selector knob, tape switch, display panel, volume control knob, headphone socket and on/off switch.

REAR PANEL

The rear panel from right to left features source inputs - (aux/phono, CD, tuner, AV and tape), tape output, pre-amp output, L & R speaker terminals, voltage selector switch and mains inlet.

LOUDSPEAKER CONNECTIONS

The loudspeakers should be connected using a suitable pair of cables designed specifically for audio use. Two pairs of screw terminals allow for either bare wire, 4mm plugs or spade lug connectors to be passed through the hole or around the bush. Tighten the terminal fully after fitting the speaker wire. Please consult your dealer for advice if you are unsure.

It is very important to connect the loudspeakers to the loudspeaker terminals in the correct phase. Cables are normally polarised with a line or a raised bump on the positive side. If one channel is not connected in the same fashion as the other, a severe loss of bass performance and a spreading of the stereo image will result.

It is very important not to short the loudspeaker cables together when the other ends are still connect- ed to the amplifier, as permanent damage can result. If it is necessary to move or change the location of the loudspeakers, make sure that you first switch off the amplifier from the mains.

VOLUME CONTROL/OPERATION

The volume can be controlled via the volume control knob situated on the right hand side of the front panel or remotely with the EVO remote handset.

The volume control is used to alter the relative level of the sound output from the amplifier. It is important to realise that the volume control only acts to reduce, or attenuate, the incoming signal to the power amplifier stage.

The maximum power of the amplifier is available only if the level of signal available from the line level equipment is sufficient to drive it to maximum power (clipping). The volume control is necessary to adjust the level from one piece of equipment to another. It does not increase the power of the amplifier and if it is found necessary to have the volume control set to a position which is considered to be high, before the desired level of volume is obtained, it does not necessarily mean that the amplifier is having to work "flat-out".

The volume level is displayed graphically from 0 - 80 in 1dB steps. When switching on, it defaults to a pre-set level of 30.

The amplifier has short circuit and DC offset protection. The speaker relays will cut out should either of these situations occur.

POWER CONSUMPTION

It is appreciated by Hi-Fi enthusiasts that leaving equipment powered-up continuously can improve the performance. However, this small improvement in sound quality comes at the expense of higher power consumption from the mains which will cost more for your electricity and also reduced working life of the product. We recommend that if the equipment is not being used for a period of time, it would be bet- ter to switch it off from the mains switch on the front panel. Normal performance can be achieved in a short period of time.

OPERATING THE EVO

Make sure that the amplifier is on a suitable table, shelf or Hi-Fi equipment cabinet.

It is important to allow adequate ventilation to the heatsink in the centre of the unit. Avoid obstruction of the ventilation slots on the top and bottom of the amplifier. It may be necessary to place the amplifier on the top of other equipment, or a separate shelf to allow for this.

Switch on the amplifier by pressing the push button marked Power on the right hand side of the front panel. The power button on the remote handset does not turn on the amplifier. You will note that once switched on, the amplifier shows a pre-set moderate turn on volume level.

Select the desired input from either the rotary selector or remote handset. Adjust the volume and settle down to listen. To switch off the amplifier, press the power button.

Your EVO amplifier is designed to give you years of reliable use. If you need more assistance, it is always advisable to go back to the supplying dealer for his expert help. If you are unfortunate enough to need service work to be carried out on your amplifier, it should be returned to your dealer in the original packing material if possible.

REMOTE CONTROL

Creek’s EVO Amplifier Remote Control handset allows the user to operate the volume control, input selection and mute by an infra-red signal using NEC codes. It should be noted that the EVO remote handset will only operate Creek’s EVO products and is not able to power up the mains.

The input switch on the top right of the handset is a toggle switch and will sequence through all available inputs.

To mute the sound, press the ‘muting’ button. Pressing it a second time returns the amplifier to the previous level at which it was playing.

Volume up and volume down buttons are the lower two buttons on the right hand side of the handset.

Pressing the display button dims/brightens the display.

The remaining buttons are for use with other source products.

RADIO INTERFERENCE

The Creek EVO amplifier is designed to work properly in normal domestic operating conditions. However, the amplifier's performance could be affected if sited near to a radio transmitter such as a mobile phone etc.

Re-siting the EVO or the radio transmitter will normalise the situation.
