OVERVIEW

Eliminate the expense of using coaxial cable with your security systems. The Video PTZ Balun connects your security or surveillance equipment using CAT3 or CAT5 twisted-pair cable. It’s compatible with PelcoCoaxitron, ViconVicoax, VideoalarmCoaxlynx, and other digital coax pan, tilt, and zoom (PTZ) security systems.

Perfect for campus and high-rise installations, the balun spans the following distances:

With Category 3 cable: Color: 875 ft. (266.7 m); B&W: 980 ft. (298.7 m)

With Category 5 cable: Color: 1250 ft. (381 m); B&W: 1400 ft. (426.7 m)

Used in pairs, the balun lets you integrate CCTV security and surveillance equipment into structured cabling systems. You can control PTZ devices from any convenient modular wall outlet to connect digital coax PTZ and video.

Use the baluns in your system, and you’ll have less downtime and quicker moves, adds, and changes, as well as neater wiring and smaller cable costs.

With a single four-pair CAT 5 cable, you can pass up to four signals. And there’s no visible picture distortion from crosstalk!

What’s more, the balun helps your system maintain a steady video image when the system is idle.

Installing the balun is easy. It comes with a separate coax lead. A handy VELCRO® strip is also included for mounting the balun on the wall.

CAT3, CAT5 specifications

Black Box CAT5 is a vital component in the realm of networking, serving as an essential category of twisted pair cable that facilitates high-speed data transmission. Recognized for its reliability and performance, CAT5 (Category 5) cable has traditionally been the backbone of local area networks (LANs) and data centers. While newer standards like CAT5e and CAT6 have emerged, CAT5 still plays a significant role, particularly in less demanding applications.

One of the most prominent features of Black Box CAT5 cabling is its ability to support data rates of up to 100 Mbps over distances of 100 meters. This makes it suitable for standard Ethernet applications, including 10BASE-T and 100BASE-TX networks. The cable consists of four pairs of twisted copper wires, which are crucial for reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI) and crosstalk between the pairs.

Black Box CAT5 cables are designed to meet the TIA/EIA 568-B standard, ensuring compatibility with existing infrastructure and devices. This standardization simplifies installation and ensures that network performance remains consistent across different environments. The cables often come in various configurations, such as unshielded twisted pair (UTP) and shielded twisted pair (STP), giving users options based on their specific deployment needs.

The materials used in Black Box CAT5 cables also contribute to their durability and performance. They typically feature high-quality PVC (polyvinyl chloride) insulation and sturdy jackets that withstand wear and tear during installation. Some variants come with plenum-rated jackets, making them suitable for installation in air handling spaces without posing a fire hazard.

In recognition of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, Black Box has made strides in minimizing the environmental impact of its products. The manufacturing processes aim to reduce waste and utilize recyclable materials where possible, aligning with global efforts toward sustainability in technology.

Ultimately, Black Box CAT5 cables represent a mature, robust solution for various networking needs. While newer technologies may offer increased speed and bandwidth, the proven performance, ease of installation, and cost-effectiveness of CAT5 make it a relevant choice for many applications, ensuring that reliable communication remains at the forefront of networking infrastructure. Whether for a small office or an extensive enterprise network, Black Box CAT5 cables deliver dependable connectivity with the features and efficiencies that users expect.
