Troubleshooting

A Cables

Make sure you are NOT using file-transfer cables.

Special cables used in DOS Interlink, LapLink®, or Win95 Direct Cable Connection file-transfer cables are not wired “straight-through”. In these cables, not all the pins are used, therefore they will not function at all. Belkin’s F2A047-xx cables, such as the one included in this package, are recommended for 100% reliable operation.

Make sure you are using high-quality IEEE 1284-compliant cables. Most new printers and parallel port devices demand the use of these cables mainly for signal integrity especially in high-speed data transfers. Lower quality cables do not feature the required double-shielded and twisted pairs, thereby increasing the chances of communication errors. The special construction of Belkin’s IEEE 1284-compliant cables not only reduce interference and retain a high signal-to-noise ratio, but also provide a lifetime of superior performance.

Make sure your cables are not too long.

Data transferred through the parallel port is reliable with 1.8m cables. If IEEE 1284-compliant cables are used, 3m cables may also be used. However, cables longer than 3m begin to degrade the signal, and signal loss is apparent by the much lower transmission speed and increased errors in the application.
