Cisco 3600 Series

The Cisco 3600 Series provides ideal multiservice platforms for large and midsize offices and smaller Internet service providers. This line is optimized for the broadest application support, including legacy protocols, analog dial, high-density terminal server aggregation, RAS, and ATM AAL2. With more than 70 modular interface options, the Cisco 3600 Series provides solutions for data, voice, video, hybrid dial access, virtual private networks (VPNs), and multiprotocol data routing, without the time and expense of managing several devices.

Benefits and Advantages

Consolidation/Integration

Combines the capabilities of dial access VPN, advanced LAN-to-LAN routing services, and multiservice integration of voice, video, data in one platform, substantially reducing life cycle costs compared to multiple-device solutions.

Integrated Flexible Routing and Low-Density Switching

With the support of optional 16-port* 10/100 EtherSwitch network modules, branch offices can take advantage of the flexibility of integrated routing and switching functions in one unit for low port densities.

This offers high-speed connections between individual desktops, servers, and other network resources in a single unit for Layer 2, and allows WAN connection at Layer 3 through the router. An optional external power chassis provides power to IP phones and Aironet 802.11

Base Stations.

Versatility/Investment Protection

Includes regular introductions of network modules addressing additional media and applications support. Dozens of WAN interface cards (WICs) and network modules (NMs) are shared with the Cisco 1600, 1700, 2600, and 3700 series products. Modules can be interchanged between small, midsize, and regional branch offices.

Advanced Multiservice Support

Delivers rich quality of service (QoS) features of Cisco IOS, and the power to support them at bandwidths in excess of multipleT1/E1.

Features such as Weighted Fair Queuing (WFQ), IP Precedence, Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP) and Committed Access Rate (CAR) provide both the traffic shaping and prioritization necessary for a robust multiservice platform that can handle mission-critical networking.

* Only Cisco 3660 also accepts the 36-port EtherSwitch network module.
