Overview

The NC3133, when plugged into a NC3131, adds a 100 Mbps Fast Ethernet network connection over fiber optic cable for server backbones and campus-wide connectivity. This upgrade module is ideal for sites with extended distance requirements, the need for added security, or EMI protection.

PER FORMANCE

32-bit Bus-mastering

The NC3133 offers the highest level 100 Mbps data transfer method available between the network and 32-bit slots for high performance and low CPU utilization. The NC3133 uses bus-mastering technology to maximize throughput and minimize CPU utilization.

Port Bonding

Adaptive Load Balancing (ALB) and Cisco’s Fast EtherChannel are two port bonding methods supported by the NC3133. ALB provides both failover and balancing of transmit traffic across all NICs for increased performance. For even higher performance, Cisco’s Fast EtherChannel provides port failover and balancing of transmit and receive traffic across all NICs when used with a Fast EtherChannel enabled switch.

SECUR ITY /RELIABILITY

Network Fault Tolerance (NFT)

NFT support, sometimes called “NIC Redundancy” or "failover," enables the NIC to keep an active connection if another NIC, switch or hub link fails by automatically switching to a backup NIC.

PCI Hot Plug

The NC3133 includes PCI Hot Plug support, which enables it to be replaced or added to a server without powering down the system. This feature provides increased system availability and non-stop serviceability in business-critical computing environments.

Server Integration

Compaq’s SmartStart® configuration utility includes setup support for the NC3133 so the NIC can be configured as part of the SmartStart configuration process. Compaq Insight Manager® can recognize the NC3133 individually or in port bonded teams, and can collect and report SNMP statistics on the NIC events. The Compaq Network Management System (CNMS) can also collect and report SNMP statistics on the NC3133.

Integrated Management Log (IML) support is provided by the NC3133 for critical event logging on Compaq servers.

Diagnostic LEDs

LEDs show link integrity and network activity for easy troubleshooting.
