Microsoft SQL Server 2005 for Embedded Systems is an advanced database platform providing enterprise-class data management with integrated business intelligence tools. The key difference is that SQL Server 2005 for Embedded Systems must be used as a database for a specified embedded application, where clients do not interact directly with the SQL Server database.

SQL Server 2005 for Embedded Systems is designed for use with Windows Server 2003 for Embedded Systems (see page 4). Both the operating system and SQL Server 2005 software must be preinstalled on a dedicated server or server appliance solution.
