Introduction

The NETGEAR® 5/8-Port Fast Ethernet Switch Model FS605 v2/FS608 v2 provides you with a low-cost, reliable, high-performance switch to connect up to five or eight different Ethernet- enabled devices (such as computers, file servers, print servers, printers, routers and hubs).

Fast Ethernet Switch FS605 v2/FS608 v2

You use the FS605 v2/FS608 v2 switch to build a small network that enables you to have 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps access to other devices on the network. Also, with this switch, you can add extra computers to your cable or DSL router. Unlike a hub that shares its connection with all devices, the FS605 v2/FS608 v2 switch provides a full, dedicated 100 Mbps (or 10 Mbps) connection between two devices. If a device has full-duplex capability, the FS605 v2/FS608 v2 switch provides a 200 Mbps (or 20 Mbps) connection.

Ethernet cables come as either straight-through or crossover cables—depending on whether you’re connecting to a device (computer, server, or printer) or networking equipment (hub, switch, or router). With the Auto Uplink™ feature, you don’t have to worry about which one you use. Each port on the FS605 v2/FS608 v2 switch automatically configures itself correctly when you plug in a device’s cable.

If you have a problem with your switch, NETGEAR offers free support 24 hours a day and 7 days a week on the Web (www.NETGEAR.com), by e-mail (support@NETGEAR.com) and by phone (see the provided support information card for phone numbers).

FS608 v2, FS605 v2 specifications

The NETGEAR FS605 v2 and FS608 v2 are reliable and efficient switches designed to meet the growing demands of small to medium-sized networks. These devices are part of NETGEAR's series of easy-to-use networking solutions, aimed at providing seamless connectivity and robust performance for home offices, businesses, and educational institutions.

The FS605 v2 is a 5-port Fast Ethernet switch, while the FS608 v2 offers 8 ports, providing flexibility depending on the size of the network. Both models support 10/100 Mbps speeds, allowing for efficient data transfer and network management. This is crucial for environments where multiple devices require a stable connection, such as computers, printers, and IP cameras.

One of the standout features of the FS605 v2 and FS608 v2 is their plug-and-play installation. Users can simply connect their devices using standard Ethernet cables, and the switches will automatically configure themselves, minimizing setup time and technical knowledge required. This user-friendly approach makes these switches ideal for individuals and organizations looking to enhance their network infrastructure without the need for specialized IT expertise.

The switches also come equipped with auto-MDI/MDI-X technology, enabling each port to automatically detect the type of connected device and adjust accordingly. This eliminates the need for crossover cables, simplifying the networking process further and ensuring compatibility with a wide range of hardware.

In terms of performance, the FS605 v2 and FS608 v2 feature store-and-forward switching architecture, which helps to prevent packet collisions and ensure smooth data flow across the network. With the ability to support multiple simultaneous data streams, these switches are well-suited for applications requiring high bandwidth and low latency.

Power efficiency is another key characteristic, as both switches are designed to consume less power compared to traditional networking devices. This focus on energy efficiency not only reduces operational costs but also aligns with environmentally friendly practices.

In summary, NETGEAR's FS605 v2 and FS608 v2 switches offer robust performance, ease of use, and energy efficiency, making them ideal for businesses and home offices looking to maximize their networking capabilities. With features like plug-and-play installation, auto-MDI/MDI-X, and store-and-forward architecture, these switches effectively meet the demands of today's connectivity needs while maintaining a simple and effective user experience.
