2Installing Hardware

Insert Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit audio card

With Compact Disc Digital Audio (CDDA) extraction enabled on your computer's operating system, you do not have to use an audio cable to connect your CD-ROM/ DVD-ROM drive to your audio card. For more information, refer to the User's Guide (on CD). Go to d:\manual\ <language>\ manual.chm (replace d:\ with your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive letter and <language> with the language that the document is in).

After you have installed your hardware, turn on your computer.

 

Windows® automatically detects the audio card.

2.

When prompted for the audio drivers, click the Cancel button.

Insert the Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit Installation and Applications CD

 

 

into your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive. If the CD does not run

 

 

automatically, click Start Run.

 

 

In the Run dialog box, type d:\ctrun\start.exe (replace d:\ with the

 

 

drive letter of your CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drive) and click the OK

 

 

button.

 

4.

Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

 

5.

When prompted, restart your computer.

Compact Disc Digital Audio (CDDA) Extraction

To enable this feature in Windows 2000 or Windows Me (Windows XP has this feature enabled), follow the steps below:

In Windows 2000 and Windows Me:

1.Click Start Settings Control Panel.

2.Double-click the System icon. The System Properties dialog box appears.

3.Click the Device Manager tab.

4.Double-click the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM icon.

5.Double-click the name of your drive.

6.Click the Properties tab, and then click the Enable Digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device check box to select it.

You can use Creative Diagnostics to test the software and hardware installation.

Uninstalling drivers and applications

Refer to the Installing and Uninstalling Software chapter in the User's Guide (on CD). These instructions are applicable to all Windows operating systems.

Digital output sampling rate

Make sure you select the sampling rate of the PCM SPDIF output of your Digital Out connector to match the requirements of your receiving device. The choices available are 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz or 96 kHz.

If you do not hear any sound from your digital speakers or experience intermittent hissing, you may need to select a lower digital output sampling rate.

To select the digital output sampling rate:

1.Go to Start Programs Creative Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit Creative Audio Console.

2.Click the SPDIF I/O tab.

3.Click the Digital Output (PCM) Sampling Rate Settings box, and then click the required sampling rate.
