5.Starting on the right side of the notebook, use a plastic scribe inserted in the hinge area to pry up the hinge cover. Lift the right side of the hinge cover away from the notebook. Then go to the left side, and similarly lift the left side of the hinge cover.

6.Remove the hinge cover. Lay the hinge cover aside.

7.2 Installing the Hinge Cover

Before installing the hinge cover, ensure that all cables are routed correctly. Improper routing of the cables can cause damage to the cables.

1.To replace the hinge cover, insert the left edge of the cover into place and place the hinge cover over the hinges.

2.Ensure that the hinge cover edges line up with those on the palm rest.

3.Install the 4 screws to secure the hinge cover to the base.

4.Install the new keyboard/palm rest overlay.

a.Remove the backing from the new keyboard/palm rest overlay.

b.Start applying the overlay around the touchpad area to align the overlay.

c.Press evenly and firmly as the overlay is applied.

d.The top of the overlay will cover the hinge cover screws on each side of the hinge cover.

8 Keyboards

The XFR can be equipped with either the standard keyboard or the optional rugged, backlit keyboard. This section provides instructions for the removal and installation of both keyboards.
