INTRODUCTION

The WH-S8 & WH-S10 is the latest in a long line of distinguished Wharfedale active subwoofers. These technologically advanced subwoofers will complement the finest electronics and decor.

Please read these instructions carefully before installing your subwoofers. A few minutes studying this manual will ensure superb performance from your subwoofer for many years.

INSTALLATION

Unpacking

Carefully unpack each subwoofer.

Retain all the packing materials so that your subwoofer can be repacked and shipped without damage. If you dispose of the packing, do so with regard to all recycling provisions in your area.

Power Connection

This subwoofer is set to operate for the mains voltage marked on the amplifier panel. Before connecting check that this voltage is correct for your mains supply.

230 volt products - 220 volts to 240 volts

115 volt products - 100 volts to 120 volts

If you move to an area with a different mains supply voltage, please consult your Wharfedale dealer to arrange the conversion of this product.

Positioning the Subwoofer

Although the unit may be placed almost anywhere in the room, we recommend that it be placed in front of the listener and as central to the listening position as possible. There should be a mains outlet within easy reach. The subwoofer should not be operated within 450mm of a television set as the drive unit magnet may distort the picture. Remember that there should be a line of sight between the listening position and the front of the subwoofer otherwise the handset remote functions will not be operable.

We suggest you initially position the subwoofer about 20cm (8 inches) from the wall. Placing the unit close to the wall will enhance the bass; placing it across the corner of the room will increase the bass further, possibly at the expense of clarity. Do not place the subwoofer close to surfaces or objects that may rattle. The floor under the subwoofer should be sound with no loose floorboards, etc. Experiment with locations and sources before making a final decision.

Multi-Channel Room Placement

The diagram shows the Dolby Labs recommended positions for multi-channel operation. For 5.1 channel operation use the satellites in the front and surround positions with the Subwoofer in the LFE position.

If you have a 7.1 channel processor/amplifier you can enhance the system further by buying one of the larger loudspeakers from the Wharfedale range to use as front channel speakers and use the satellite units as back channels.

If you have any queries, your wharfedale dealer will be pleased to advise you.

WH-S8 & WH-S10 specifications

Wharfedale, a renowned British audio manufacturer, has recently introduced two impressive subwoofer models: the WH-S8 and WH-S10. Both of these subwoofers are engineered to deliver exceptional audio performance and complement any home theater or music setup. Let's delve into the main features, technologies, and characteristics that set these subwoofers apart.

The WH-S8 is equipped with an 8-inch driver, while the WH-S10 features a larger 10-inch driver, catering to different preferences when it comes to bass reproduction. The drivers are crafted using advanced materials that ensure durability and optimal performance. The cone design contributes to precise lows, providing an impactful listening experience without compromising clarity.

One of the standout features of both models is their impressive power handling capacity. The WH-S8 boasts a power output of 200 watts while the WH-S10 elevates this to 300 watts. This robust amplification allows for dynamic range and deep bass response, perfect for both cinematic moments and music performances. The built-in Class D amplifiers ensure high efficiency, leaving less wasted energy and keeping the heat generation to a minimum.

Both subwoofers utilize Wharfedale's proprietary technologies to enhance sound fidelity. The Low-Frequency Optimization (LFO) technology improves the subwoofers' low-end response, allowing users to experience deeper bass tones in music and movie soundtracks. Additionally, the driver design helps reduce distortion, ensuring that what you hear remains true to the original sound, enriching the overall audio experience.

The WH-S8 and WH-S10 also feature adjustable crossover settings, enabling listeners to customize the frequency range at which the subwoofer operates. This feature is essential for integrating the subwoofers effortlessly with satellite speakers, allowing for a balanced soundstage that doesn’t overpower midrange and high frequencies.

Moreover, both models include volume control options and phase adjustment capabilities, providing flexibility in tuning the sound to suit different room acoustics and personal preferences. The enclosures are constructed with high-quality MDF, which not only enhances durability but also minimizes cabinet resonances, ensuring clean sound reproduction.

In summary, the Wharfedale WH-S8 and WH-S10 subwoofers stand out for their solid construction, powerful performance, and advanced technologies. Whether you are a movie enthusiast or a music lover, these subwoofers promise to enhance your audio experience with their deep and precise bass performance, making them a worthy addition to any entertainment system.
