Positioning

The PLW-15 should now be sited in the most suitable position, preferably not directly in the corner of a room as this may cause excessive bass boom. Once a desirable position is achieved it is important to check if the cables are long enough to reach comfortably without being under tension. Leave the PLW-15 unplugged until you are happy with it’s location.

Never connect or disconnect any of the input connections with the PLW-15 switched on.

Optimal control settings will depend entirely on your system configuration. For initial trials set the controls as follows:

Set Up

Once in position and cables have been routed; connect them to the PLW-15. Mains power cable should be connected last. Do not play any music at this stage.

NOTE: The entire set up procedure can be done via the control panel or remote control handset.

Using an A/V Processor/Receiver

Connect a single interconnect cable from an A/V processor/receiver to the connection marked LFE input. LFE must be displayed on the control panel display. If ‘2-CH’ (indicating 2 Channel, stereo input) is displayed, the LFE button on the remote control can be pressed to select LFE. LFE should then be indicated on the display.

Using the LFE input, negates the PLW-15’s crossover filter. This needs to be set on the A/V processor/receiver. Please refer to the product user manual for further information. As a guide, the crossover should be set up in accordance with the low frequency limit of the main speakers (see table on page 10).

Using 2 Channel (L&R) stereo inputs

Stereo L & R input may be required if using a 2-channel stereo amplifier, or an older A/V receiver with no LFE output. Connect 2 x interconnect cables (left and right) from a stereo amplifier or A/V processor receiver to connections marked Line Inputs L & R. ‘2-CH’ (indicating stereo input) must be displayed on the control panel display. If ‘LFE’ is displayed, the LFE button on the remote control can be pressed to select stereo input. ‘2-CH’ should then be indicated on the display.

Once the appropriate input has been selected, you can now enter the set up menu. This is done by pressing enter (on the remote) or by pressing the encoder.

If you are using the PLW-15 with a stereo amplifier and an AV amplifier/ receiver, different setting for each input can be saved to different memory locations and the recalled depending on input. Memory recall is achieved by pressing the up arrow on the remote.

Factory Settings

Factory settings are denoted by the symbol in the Set Up Guide:

These should be treated as the initial setting when setting up your product. Further fine tuning of the settings can be done if you feel these factory settings do not match your environment or tastes.

The factory setting are stored in the Memory Recall option under ‘default’. These cannot be changed.

PLW-15 specifications

The Monitor Audio PLW-15 is a remarkable subwoofer that encapsulates the essence of powerful lows and sophisticated engineering, making it an ideal choice for both home theater and high-fidelity music setups. This subwoofer is part of Monitor Audio's Platinum series, known for its premium components and immaculate craftsmanship.

One of the standout features of the PLW-15 is its 15-inch driver, which is meticulously designed to deliver deep and impactful bass. The driver utilizes a C-CAM (Ceramic-Coated Aluminum Magnesium) diaphragm, providing a stiff yet lightweight structure that minimizes distortion and enhances sound accuracy. The high excursion capability of the driver allows for a broader dynamic range, meaning that it can handle both subtle nuances and powerful sound effects with equal finesse.

Another significant aspect of the PLW-15 is its innovative passive radiator design, which works in tandem with the active driver. This configuration allows the subwoofer to achieve a remarkable frequency response that reaches down to 15 Hz. Such low frequencies are crucial for authentic movie and music experiences, ensuring that users feel the full impact of soundtracks and audio mixes.

The PLW-15 also boasts advanced technologies such as Monitor Audio's unique HiVe II port technology. This allows for the efficient venting of air from the cabinet, reducing turbulence and distortion during operation. This design decision contributes to a cleaner, more controlled bass output, allowing the subwoofer to blend seamlessly with other speakers in a surround sound setup.

Customization is key in the PLW-15's design, offering users adjustable crossover and phase settings. These features enable users to finely tune the subwoofer to match the acoustics of their room, ensuring optimal performance no matter the environment. The subwoofer is housed in an elegantly crafted cabinet that is both attractive and functional, designed to minimize resonance and unwanted vibrations.

Moreover, the PLW-15 is compatible with various home theater systems, featuring multiple input options, including LFE and line-level inputs, making it versatile for different setups. Its understated yet sleek aesthetic allows it to fit in harmoniously with a range of interior styles.

In summary, the Monitor Audio PLW-15 is an exemplary subwoofer engineered to deliver outstanding audio performance. With its powerful driver, innovative technologies, and elegant design, it offers an unparalleled listening experience for true audio enthusiasts. Whether used for music or cinema, the PLW-15 promises to elevate any sound system.
