Recovery CD

The Recovery CD can reinstall the software to the state it was in when you purchased the computer.

You also have the option of restoring your computer to the way it was when you performed the last User Backup.

Caution: Everything added to the drive since the last User Backup will be lost after you perform a user recovery.

Tip

User Backup creates USER.PQI files. These files are read-only—you cannot edit their contents.

Using the Recovery CD

Restarting your computer with the Recovery CD in the drive displays the following menu of options:

Option

Description

 

 

Emergency

Creates a recovery diskette, which stores the system

Diskette

information that came with your computer. This diskette

 

is necessary if Windows does not start normally. You can

 

start the system with this diskette and access your files.

 

 

User Backup

Creates a backup of the current Windows configuration

 

and saves it on a separate partition on your hard drive.

 

The backup is stored in USER. PQI files.

User Restore

Extracts the data from the USER.PQI files stored on the

 

D drive and restores the C drive to the settings that

 

existed at the time of your last User Backup.

 

 

Factory Restore

Restores the computer to its original factory condition.

 

You will need to re-enter your factory registration

 

information again, and you may be prompted to insert

 

your emergency diskette.

 

 

Exit

Exits the Recovery CD.
