Front Panel

1. 'SST POWER' switch

The front panel label 'SST POWER', is a touch sensitive membrane switch used to apply or remove a/c line power to the soft start circuitry. Push firmly the center of the switch until the power-up sequence begins. Push again and the amplifier will power-down. ( Note: the rear circuit breaker must be on for the amplifier to power-up)

2. LED Indicator

The 7B SST has an LED indicator to monitor the following conditions:

UNLIT

-

indicates the amplifier has no power.

RED

-

indicates the amplifier is muted (power-up)

GREEN -

indicates the amplifier operation is normal.

FLASHING RED - indicates the amplifier clipping.

ORANGE -

indicates channel thermal shutdown.

Power up sequence

After pushing the 'SST POWER' switch, the LED will turn from unlit to red (mute). When the power supply has stabilized the amplifier will come out of mute and the LED will change to green (normal operation).

Unlit LED ( No power )

The 7B SST LED when unlit indicates no A/C mains power is present and the amplifier probably needs only to be pow- ered on or the rear panel circuit breaker is switched off.

Clipping ( flashing red )

Clipping occurs when the channel output level no longer can follow the level increase at the input (Overdriven input con- dition). When the 7B SST is driven into clipping the LED will change from green to red then back to green when the level is reduced ( Flashing Red ). Momentary clipping can be tolerated, however it indicates that maximum un-distorted power has been surpassed and potential speaker damage may result if overload conditions persist. Any amplifier that is con- stantly operated into clipping indicates a more powerful amplifier is needed for that application.

Thermal Shutdown ( orange )

The 7B SST has thermal shutdown circuitry to prevent damage due to overheating.

Should thermal shutdown occur, the amplifier will mute, and the LED will turn orange indicating this condition. When the amplifier has cooled to a safe operating condition the 7B SST will return to normal operation.

Persistent Thermal shutdown indicates steps need to be taken to increase airflow across the heat sink. ( Also see instal- lation section on ventilation ).

7B SST specifications

The Bryston 7B SST is a high-performance power amplifier renowned for its exceptional sound quality and robust build. As a part of Bryston’s SST (Super Silent Technology) line, the 7B SST represents a culmination of innovative engineering and unwavering dedication to audio fidelity, making it a favored choice among audiophiles and professionals alike.

One of the standout features of the 7B SST is its impressive power output, delivering 800 watts per channel into 4 ohms and 400 watts per channel into 8 ohms. This ensures that it can drive even the most demanding loudspeakers with ease, offering the headroom necessary for dynamic music playback. The amplifier employs a fully balanced differential design, minimizing noise and distortion, which results in cleaner, more accurate sound reproduction.

The 7B SST utilizes advanced technologies such as Bryston’s proprietary output devices, which contribute to its high performance and reliability. These output devices are designed to handle higher current levels, reducing the chances of clipping and ensuring that high volumes can be achieved without loss of quality. Additionally, the amplifier features a unique design that allows it to maintain stability and performance across a wide range of speaker impedances.

Thermal management is another key aspect of the 7B SST’s design. The unit is equipped with a robust heat sink system that allows for efficient dissipation of heat during operation, ensuring that the amplifier remains cool even under strenuous conditions. This is complemented by a toroidal transformer that provides excellent voltage regulation while minimizing electromagnetic interference.

Connectivity options on the 7B SST are versatile, including balanced XLR and single-ended RCA inputs. This flexibility allows for seamless integration into various audio systems, whether in home theaters or professional studio settings. The amplifier also boasts an impressive signal-to-noise ratio, providing a silent background for delicate musical details to emerge.

In summary, the Bryston 7B SST is a powerful amplifier that combines cutting-edge technology with exceptional performance characteristics. Its ability to deliver high-quality sound, even under demanding conditions, makes it a prized asset for any serious audio setup, ensuring that users experience their music as the artist intended. Its robust construction and reliability further underscore Bryston's reputation for quality in the world of audio amplifiers.
