Turning Off the Notebook

Turn off the notebook by using the Windows shutdown procedure: Select Start > Turn Off Computer > Turn Off.

If the notebook does not respond to the Windows shutdown procedure, try the following emergency shutdown procedures:

Press and hold down the power button for at least 5 seconds.

If the notebook remains unresponsive, press Fn+power button.

If the notebook still remains unresponsive, disconnect the notebook from external power and remove the battery pack.

Power Surges

To protect the notebook from the power surges that may be caused by an uncertain power supply or an electrical storm:

Plug the notebook power cord into an optional, high-quality surge protector.

Provide surge protection on the cable that connects a modem to the telephone line.

During an electrical storm, run the notebook on battery power or shut down the notebook and disconnect the power cord.

Surge protectors are available from most computer or electronics retailers.
