WThe two power cord wires must be kept separate while the power supply is plugged in. Remove power before continuing.

To verify the polarity before connection, plug in the power supply with no load and check the output with a voltmeter.

c IR In connector — Plug the cable from the IR sensor or from an Extron IR Link infrared repeater into this 3.5 mm, 5-pole captive screw connector.

NThe IR 102 Kit can be used with an Extron MPS 112 switcher only when the switcher is in single switch mode. Refer to the "MPS 112 User’s Manual."

e RS-232/Contact – Out connector (9-pin D) — Plug the RS-232 or contact closure output cable into this 9-pin D connector, and plug the other end of the cable into the switcher’s contact closure/RS-232 control port. This permits the IR 102 Rx remote receiver to control the switcher. The pin assignments are listed in the following table.

NSee the note for d.

NThe cable used to connect the RS-232/Contact – Out connector to a computer, control system, or contact closure device may need to be modified by removing pins or cutting wires. If unneeded pins are connected, the system may "hang" (suspend communication indefinitely).

For RS-232 control and IR control, use a control cable with only

pins 2, 3, and 5 connected. If other pins are connected, either cut the wires to the other pins if the cable has a hard-

NThe cable length for the IR sensor is 6 feet (1.8 meters). Do not extend the IR sensor cable beyond 21 feet (6.4 meters).

shelled connector, or remove the other pins if the cable has a molded plug.

For contact closure, use a control cable with pins 2 and 3 not connected. If the cable has pins 2 and 3 connected, cut the wires to these pins if the cable has a hard-shelled connector, or remove these pins if the cable has a molded plug.

f RS-232 In connector — Plug the RS-232 input cable into this 9-pin D connector to permit a PC or control system to control the switcher, even though the switcher’s RS-232 connector is occupied by the IR 102 Rx remote receiver. The pin assignments are shown in the table above.

IR 102 specifications

Extron Electronics is a well-known leader in the audiovisual industry, with a strong reputation for developing innovative and high-quality products. Two of their notable offerings are the IRL 20 and IR 102, which provide advanced infrared (IR) communication solutions for a wide range of applications.

The Extron IRL 20 is an infrared lighting system designed to deliver high-performance IR signals for controlling AV devices. One of its primary features is its ability to provide reliable, long-range IR communication, which is essential in environments where line-of-sight control may be obstructed. The IRL 20 boasts a broad coverage area, ensuring consistent performance even in larger spaces. This capability is augmented by the system's dual IR emitters, allowing for enhanced signal strength and improved reliability.

Key technologies incorporated in the IRL 20 include a stable LED light source that ensures optimal performance across various distances. This innovation helps maintain signal integrity and minimizes potential interference from other electronic devices. Additionally, the IRL 20 is compatible with a range of Extron’s control processors, providing seamless integration into existing AV control systems.

On the other hand, the Extron IR 102 serves as a versatile infrared receiver. It is equipped to decode incoming IR signals and transmit commands to connected devices, making it an essential component in any automated AV environment. The IR 102 features a streamlined design that can easily blend into any installation, promoting a clean and unobtrusive appearance.

Among the main characteristics of the IR 102 is its ability to support multiple IR codes, allowing users to control a variety of devices simultaneously. The unit's high sensitivity ensures it can pick up signals even when at a distance, enhancing the convenience of use. Moreover, both the IR 102 and IRL 20 have been designed with ease of installation in mind, featuring standard mounting options and simple wiring connections.

In summary, the Extron IRL 20 and IR 102 provide powerful solutions for infrared communication in audiovisual applications. Their advanced technologies, reliable performance, and compatibility with other Extron systems make them ideal for enhancing user experience in commercial and educational settings. With their focus on innovation, Extron continues to lead the way in the field of AV control solutions.
