What version of Windows XP Media Center do I need?

You must use Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. The Extender does not support previous versions.

I don’t have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, but I do have a previous version. How do I get an upgrade?

Can I use the Extender with a Wireless-B (802.11b) network?

No, Wireless-B networking is not supported by the Extender. It will work with a Wireless-A (802.11a) or

Wireless-G (802.11g) network.

What is a “double hop” wireless network?

It is a network in which both the Media Center PC and Extender are connected to the wireless router via wireless. This type of network is not supported and may cause choppy video or frequent drop-outs. For best results, use an Ethernet network cable to connect either the Media Center PC or Extender to the wireless router.

What is the IEEE 802.11a standard?

It is one of the IEEE standards for wireless networks. The 802.11a standard allows wireless networking hardware from different manufacturers to communicate, provided that the hardware complies with the 802.11a standard. The 802.11a standard states a maximum data transfer rate of 54Mbps and an operating frequency of 5GHz.
