HD Up-Conversion (DVD-S52)

When a Panasonic DVD Player is connected to an HDMI compatible display, DVD can be up-converted to 720p or 1080i for output. The converted images have much higher resolution than the 576i images of conventional component output. Ordinary video up-converters produce images by uniformly interpolating the original video signal. This produces images with thicker edges and decreased sharpness. The H.Bass function helps compensate for this by mixing low-frequency sound components into the front right and left signals and by taking advantage of a natural characteristic of the human ear. H.Bass creates harmonic components of sounds that are too low for the speakers to reproduce. The listener is able to perceive the original sound from the harmonic components. The result is a rich, dynamic TV sound that actually exceeds the reproduction range of the TV speakers.
