Glossary

analog signal A signaling method that uses continuous changes in the amplitude or frequency of an electronic transmission to convey information.

aspect ratio Refers to the ratio between the width and height of the screen. This TV has a 16:9 (widescreen) aspect ratio, as opposed to a 4:3 aspect ratio.

each line from top to bottom.

Provides 720 lines of resolution. Displays images using progressive scanning, which transmits

Provides 1080 lines of resolution. Displays images using interlaced scanning, which first

 

transmits all the odd lines on the TV screen and then the even lines. 1080i is one of the

 

formats used by HDTV (High Definition TV).
