Dr. Brown's manual How to use the Electric Breast Pump, Breast Milk Storage Guidelines

The Dr. Brown’s pump feels like no other pump at the breast because it expresses milk differently than all other pumps. Some of our moms say it is a “fluttery”or “tickling” feeling that’s lighter, more gentle on the breast. All other pumps tug and pull the nipple, which can be uncomfortable and is often painful.

It is highly recommended that you drink plenty of water and remain well hydrated.

How to use the Electric Breast Pump

1.Plug the Power Cord into the wall socket before inserting other end into the Motor Case on the pump.

2.Make yourself comfortable, sitting in an upright position leaning slightly forward, well supported and relaxed.

3.Set the Vacuum Dial to minimum position before starting the pump and center the nipple into the honeycomb Liner. Turn the pump on.

4.After a few seconds, slowly increase the Vacuum Dial to a desired comfort level. Everyone is unique, but most first time users prefer a medium vacuum setting. Some moms, especially more experienced users, prefer a vacuum setting between medium and maximum.

5.If the vacuum is too low, simply adjust Vacuum Dial up. If the vacuum ever becomes too high, press side of breast to break vacuum, adjust the vacuum setting lower, then center the nipple into the honeycomb Liner and resume pumping.

6.When you have finished expressing, turn off the breast pump, press side of breast to break vacuum, remove the Power Cord from the Motor Case and unplug from wall socket.

NOTE: When the pump is in operation, do not lay it on its side.

Breast Milk Storage Guidelines

1.Storage containers should be clean before use.

2.Breast milk should be kept at room temperature for as short as time possible and refrigerated or frozen immediately after expression.

3.Breast milk can be stored at room temperature for up to six hours.

4.Breast milk stored in a refrigerator should be used within 5 days hours and stored at a temperature of 35-39°F (2-4°C).

5.Breast milk that has not been used within 5 days should be stored frozen at –4°F ( –20°C) for a maximum of 6 months.
