Files are stored in folders created automatically by the camera using names beginning with a three-digit folder number followed by “NIKON” (e.g., “100NIKON”). If a picture is taken when the current folder contains 200 files or a file numbered 9999, the camera will create a new folder and name it by adding 1 to the current folder number (for example, the next folder created after “100NIKON” will be “101NIKON”). If the last file number was 9999, the first file in the new folder will be numbered 0001. If the current folder is numbered 999 and contains either 200 files or a file numbered 9999, no new pictures can be taken until memory is formatted (before formatting memory, be sure to copy to a computer any pictures you want to keep).
