Troubleshooting

image is blurred.

Press the shutter button halfway to focus on the subject, then press fully to shoot (p. 24).

Shoot the subject within the focusing distance (p. 201). Set the [AF-assist Beam] to [On] (p. 171).

Confirm that functions which you do not intend to use (macro, etc.) are not set. Shoot using the focus lock or AF lock (pp. 96, 99).

Even when you press the shutter button halfway, the AF frame does not appear, and the camera does not focus.

If you center on the light and dark contrasting area of the subject and push the shutter button halfway, or repeatedly push the shutter button halfway, the AF frame will appear and the camera will focus.

Subject is too dark.

Set the flash to ,_ (p. 85).

Correct the brightness with exposure compensation (p. 85).

Adjust the image with i-Contrast (pp. 89, 149).

Use spot metering or AE Lock to shoot (pp. 101,102).

Subject is too bright (overexposed).

Depending on the Shooting mode, when shooting in a high ISO speed the image may appear rough or grainy (pp. 65, 66).

Eyes appear red (p. 104).

Set the [Red-Eye Lamp] to [On] (p. 171). When shooting with the flash, the tamp (on the front of the camera) lights (p. 42), and for approximately 1 second while the camera is reducing red-eye, it is not possible to shoot. It is more effective if the subject is looking directly at the lamp. Even better results can be obtained by increasing the lighting in indoor settings or approaching closer to the subject.

Correct images with red-eye correction (p. 150).
