LCD monitor

1:The brightness of the screen becomes dark or bright for a moment.

This phenomenon appears when pressing the shutter button halfway to set the aperture value and does not affect the recorded pictures.

2:The screen is too bright or dark.

Adjust the brightness of the screen.

3:Some pixels are inactive or always lit on the LCD monitor.

These pixels do not affect the recorded pictures.

This is not a malfunction.

4:Noise appears on the LCD monitor.

In dark places, noise may appear to maintain the brightness of the LCD monitor.

This does not affect the pictures you are recording.

5:A vertical red line appears on the LCD monitor.

This is called smear. It is specific to CCD, not a malfunction. It appears when the subject has a bright part. It is recorded on motion images, but not recorded on still pictures.

Flash

1:Flash is not activated.

Is the flash setting set to Forced OFF

The flash is not activated when in

motion image mode [ ], [SCENERY], [NIGHT SCENERY], or [FIREWORKS] in scene mode (P56) is selected.

2:The flash is activated 2 times.

When you select AUTO/Red-eye

reduction [ ], the first flash is activated for red-eye prevention on the subject (red-eye phenomenon) before actually recording pictures. After the first flash, the flash is activated again for recording.

Playback

1:Pictures being played are rotated and displayed in an unexpected direction. The camera has a function to automatically rotate and display pictures recorded by holding the camera vertically.

(If you take pictures aiming the camera up or down, the camera may recognise that it is held vertically.)

When [ROTATE DISP.] (P70) is set to [OFF], you can display the pictures without being rotated.

You can rotate pictures with [ROTATE] function (P70).

2:The picture is not played back.

Is the mode dial set to playback [ ]?

Is there a picture in the built-in memory or the card?

When a card is not inserted, the picture data in the built-in memory appear. When a card is inserted, the picture data in the card appear. (P19)

3:The picture played back looks rough. Noise appears on the picture.

Is the ISO sensitivity is high or is the shutter speed slow?

Decrease the ISO sensitivity. (P64)

Set [PICT.ADJ.] to [NATURAL]. (P67)

Take pictures in bright places.

TV, PC and printer

1:The picture does not appear on the television.

Is the camera connected to the TV correctly?

Set the TV input to external input mode.

2:When connecting to a PC, pictures cannot be transferred.

Is the camera connected to the PC correctly?

Is the camera recognised by the PC correctly?
