The tympanic membrane (eardrum), and the hypothalamus (the part of the brain which controls body temperature) share a common blood supply, so tympanic readings rise and fall rapidly with core temperature (deep-body temperature). This makes ear temperature one of the best indicators of internal body (core) temperature.

What are normal temperature values? Human body temperature varies from person to person, and body temperature fluctuates throughout the day. Because of this natural variation, you should become familiar with your normal body tempera- ture range by measuring it yourself when healthy, in order to establish reference temperatures which will make you feel more confident of the measured tempera- ture when it is abnormal.

Using the Ear Thermometer correctly

1.Try the 2215 Ear Thermometer on yourself first to become familiar with its operation.

2.Taking the temperature immediately after waking up may cause the reading to be higher than normal as a result of sleeping on the ear.

3It is common for the right and left ear readings to be slightly different; use the same ear consistently to obtain temperature readings.

4.Straighten the ear canal before and during measurements:

For Children under 12 months: Straighten the ear canal by pulling the ear back as shown below.

For Children over 12 months and Adults: Straighten the ear canal by pulling the ear back and up as shown below.

5.This ear thermometer automatically converts measured ear temperature reading to oral temperature.
