View messages on the SIM card

Before you can view SIM messages, you need to copy them to a folder in your phone. Select Menu > Messaging > Messages > Options > SIM messages, mark the messages you want to copy, and select Options > Copy and the folder to which you want to copy the messages.

Service commands

To enter and send service commands (also known as USSD commands) such as activation commands for network services to AT&T, select Menu > Messaging > Messages > Options > Service commands. To send the command, select Options > Send.

Messaging settings

Text message settings

To define text message settings, such as the message center and character encoding used, select Menu > Messaging > Messages > Options > Settings > Text message.

Multimedia messaging settings

To define multimedia message settings, such as the access point to use and whether multimedia messages are retrieved automatically, select Menu > Messaging > Messages > Options > Settings > Multimedia message.

Other settings

To define whether a specified number of sent messages are saved to the Sent folder, and whether to store the messages in the phone memory or on the memory card, select Menu > Messaging > Messages > Options > Settings > Other.

Message reader

Select Menu > Messaging > Msg. reader.

The message reader reads received text and multimedia messages aloud.

To play a message, press and hold the left selection key when you receive a message.

To start reading the next message in Inbox, scroll down. To start reading the message again, scroll up. At the beginning of the message, scroll up to hear the previous message.

To pause the reading, press the left selection key briefly. To continue, press the left selection key briefly again. To end the reading, press the end key. See "Edit the voice properties," p.

Instant messaging

The instant messaging (IM, network service) allows you to converse with others and join discussion forums (IM groups) with specific topics.
