Using the Calculator function

The built-in calculator in the Electronic Dictionary can perform twelve-digit arithmetic calculations with memory function. To access the Calculator function, press a.

Prior to initiating calculations

This product uses a comma ‘,’ as a decimal separator; a period is used as a thousand separator.

Before performing any calculation, press @@bto clear the memory and the display.

To start a calculation with a negative number, place a subtraction sign by pressing -at the beginning of the calculation.

If you wish to correct a wrong entry, press !and re-enter the figure.

In the calculation examples found in this section, indications and icons that may appear on the screen (‘=’, ‘M+’, ‘M-’, ‘+’, ‘–’, ‘x’, and ‘÷’) are abbreviated or are not shown. These icons appear to show you the interim result of calculations. For example, the ‘=’ icon appears on the screen when =or %is pressed, while icons such as ‘M+’ and ‘+’ appear after each corresponding key has been pressed.

An ‘M’ is shown when a value other than 0 is put in the memory. To clear the content of the memory, press @twice. Note that the pressing of $or # also functions as =.

Press to enter ‘=’. To input ‘,’ (decimal separator), press .

An error message ‘E’ is displayed if:

the integer section of a calculation result exceeds 12 digits

the memory exceeds 12 digits

an attempt is made to divide a number by zero.

Press !to clear the error condition.
