Page 51

Notes on Speaker size

LARGE

Speakers that can sufficiently reproduce enough bass range.

SMALL

Speakers that do not satisfy the requirements for LARGE speakers. Enough bass range can be produced, if you install the subwoofer.

You can perform steps instructed in “Setting speakers and their sizes” (page 37) to change speaker sizes set automatically.

Notes on Lowpass filter

When the speaker size is “SMALL ”, the unit cannot sufficiently reproduce the bass range.

You can set the lowpass filter frequency according to the playback frequency range and arrange the unit to output the missing bass range from the subwoofer.

Note for speaker detection and size setting

When you set the front speakers (“L ”, “R ”) as “LARGE

The subwoofer also makes audio output in the bass range when you perform stereo playback of analog and PCM sources.

The subwoofer sends out only the LFE (low frequency effect channel) signal contained in 2-channel Dolby Digital or DTS sources when you play them in stereo.

The following are set automatically.

When you set “LR ” to “SMALL”, “SUBW ” is set to “YES ”. When you set “SUBW ” to “NO ”, “LR ” is set to “LARGE ”.

SB ” does not appear when “S ” is set to “NONE ”.

The “SB ” size becomes the “S ” size because the unit does not offer “SB ” size setting.

When you change the number of connected speakers, settings made with the setup microphone are cancelled (pages 24 and 25).

See “Notes on Speaker size” (left) for more details.

Notes on “SPEAKERS B”

Playback is in 2-channel stereo when you select SPEAKERS B only.

If a surround source is played back when only SPEAKERS B is selected, “2CH MIX” is displayed on the display.

Selected speakers output sounds assigned to front 2 channels when you make ANALOG 8CH connections.

If you select SPEAKERS B only, the following are set automatically irrespective of settings selected in “Setting speakers and their sizes” (page 37).

Speaker size: “LARGE

Subwoofer: “NO ” (Bass is output from the front speakers.)

Settings made through the auto speaker setup (pages 24 and 25) are cancelled.

Notes on “BI-AMP”

This function activates automatically when you play analog audio sources or 2-channel PCM signals through bi-wire connections.

The unit takes advantage of the front speaker and the surround back speaker amps, and drives the speakers’ high- frequency and low-frequency ranges separately when this function is on.

Press [SURROUND] off (page 29).

You cannot use BI-AMP with analog 8-channel connections.

The “BI-AMP” indicator stays on while BI-AMP is at work (page 6).
