Working with Linux

This Compaq PC is not shipped with a Microsoft® Windows operating system. References to Microsoft products, the CD-RW optical drive, wireless optical mouse, special keyboard functions, application and system recovery, and some software programs are not applicable to this PC.

Operating system configuration instructions for Linux are installed on this PC and on the recovery CD.

Finding Support

To access support, register on the MandrakeSoft Web site (http://www.mandrakesoft.com).

1Select Support.

2Select Register.

3Select the register link for Compaq Presario.

4Follow the onscreen instructions. The registration number you use is on the Linux CD cover.

After registering you have 30 days of free e-mail support for your Linux operating system.

Select Support and then E-Supportto get an e-mail response.

Linux operating system software updates are available for download on the MandrakeSoft Web site.

Using System Recovery

To restore your PC hard drive to its original factory condition, use this CD only when:

The entire hard drive has been formatted.

The hard drive has been replaced.

Caution: This process deletes all information and data on the PC hard drive. Save your data to external storage before doing a system recovery.

1Insert the recovery CD into the CD-ROM drive.

2Turn off the PC.

3Turn on the PC.

4Press Enter after the Welcome window displays.

5When the CD tray opens, remove the CD.

6Turn off the PC.

7Turn on the PC.
