Introduction

WARNING

This pool heat pump is an electromechanical machine that incorporates a pressurized refrigerant gas in a sealed system. ONLY trained and qualified service personnel are authorized to install or service this equipment.

Without proper training and knowledge of such equipment, any attempt to install or service the unit could result in serious injury or even death.

This manual contains important information on the use, maintenance and troubleshooting of your new heat pump. This unit must be properly installed, maintained and operated for optimal performance. This heat pump is an extremely efficient, economical machine designed specifically for swimming pool heating. It is similar in design and operation to a typical residential air conditioning system. The heat pump employs a hermetic motor/compressor operating in a refrigeration cycle to extract heat from ambient air and deliver it to the circulating pool water.

As with all pool heat pumps, compared to other types of heat pumps such as gas- or oil-fired, this heat pump has lower heating capacity on a BTU/hr basis. As a result, it will be required to operate longer to accomplish the desired results. It may, at certain times, operate as much as 24 hours per day. However, this should not be of concern to the owner, because the unit is designed to operate continuously. Even though it may operate continuously for many hours, it will still heat the pool with greater economy than other types of fossil fuel heaters.

Place a cover or blanket over the pool at night and other non-use periods. This will keep evaporation, the cause of the greatest heat loss, to a minimum, and will greatly reduce pool heating costs. During warmer weather, the cover may be required only at night.

I. Installation Considerations

WARNING

Do not install the unit within 3 ft of fossil fuel burning heaters. Air intake along the sides of this heat pump could disturb the combustion process of the unit, and could cause damage or personal injury.

Mount the unit on a level, sturdy base, preferably a concrete slab or blocks. The size of the base should be at least 3 ft by 3 ft.

You must install the 4 black rubber sound isolation pads that ship with the unit. Install under the corners of the unit to reduce vibration and sound transmission to the base.

CAUTION

The unit’s supporting base must be high enough to keep it completely free of standing water at all times.

5100, 6100 specifications

Raypak has long been recognized as a leader in the pool and spa heating industry, and their models, the 6100 and 5100, stand out for their innovative features and advanced technologies. Both models are designed to provide efficient heating solutions for residential and commercial applications, ensuring that pool and spa enthusiasts enjoy optimal water temperatures year-round.

The Raypak 6100 is equipped with a robust heat exchanger made from copper and brass, ensuring excellent heat transfer and corrosion resistance. This model boasts an impressive BTU output, allowing it to heat water quickly, even in larger pools. It employs a digital thermostat and a user-friendly control panel, providing precise temperature control and ease of operation. The 6100 also features built-in safety measures, including a high-limit switch and a pressure switch to prevent overheating and ensure safe operation.

In contrast, the Raypak 5100 offers a slightly lower BTU output, making it suitable for smaller residential pools or spas. Nevertheless, this model does not compromise on efficiency or performance. Like the 6100, the 5100 utilizes a copper and brass heat exchanger, which maximizes heat transfer while ensuring durability. The digital controls on the 5100 also provide ease of use, featuring intuitive settings that allow users to fine-tune their heating preferences.

Both models utilize Raypak's exclusive polymer headers, which provide superior resistance to corrosion and longevity compared to traditional materials. These innovative designs prevent scale buildup and ensure efficient operation over time. Additionally, Raypak's heaters are designed for versatility, capable of running on both natural gas and propane, making them suitable for various settings and configurations.

Another key characteristic of the Raypak 6100 and 5100 is their commitment to energy efficiency. Both heaters are engineered to meet or exceed energy efficiency standards, reducing operational costs while minimizing their environmental footprint. With a streamlined design, installation is straightforward, and routine maintenance can be carried out with minimal effort.

Ultimately, the Raypak 6100 and 5100 models present excellent choices for anyone seeking reliable and efficient heating solutions for their pools or spas. With advanced technologies, durable construction, and an emphasis on user control and safety, these heaters are designed to meet the needs of modern pool and spa owners, ensuring comfort and enjoyment with every use.
