GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR AKBAR 89 ROLLING FIRE DOORS

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01Work Included—The steel rolling automatic fire doors will be Wayne-Dalton Akbar 89 Model ___ as manufactured by Wayne-Dalton Corp.

1.02Related Work—Opening preparation, miscellaneous or structural metal work, access panels, finish or field painting, field electrical wiring, wire, conduit, fuses, and disconnect switches are in the Scope of Work of other divisions or trades.

PART 2 PRODUCT

2.01Curtain will be composed of interlocking curved slats rolled from galvanized and bonderized steel with gray baked-on paint per ASTM standards. Size and gauge of slats to be as required by Underwriters’ Laboratories to meet their standards for labeled constructed fire doors. Metal endlocks will be included on ends of alternate slats.

Bottom Bar will be reinforced with two steel angles of equal size and weight bolted together. (Astragal available to assist in cushioning and sealing bottom of door.)

2.02Guides will be of steel angles so as to provide track in which curtain can travel and for expansion at all bolt connections. (Perimeter seals can be installed to reduce air infiltration around door opening.)

2.03Brackets will be of precision

formed plate, with permanently sealed ball bearings, designed to enclose ends of coil and provide support for counterbalance pipe at each end.

2.04Counterbalance: Curtain to be coiled on a pipe of sufficient size to carry door load with deflection not to exceed .033 inches per foot of door span and to be evenly balanced by helical springs, oil tempered torsion type. Cast iron barrel plugs will be used to anchor springs to tension shaft and pipe.

2.05Hood will be minimum 24 gauge (painted) (galvanized) sheet metal, flanged at top for attachment to header and flanged at bottom to provide longitudinal stiffness. Hood will enclose curtain coil and counterbalance mechanism.*

(*All FM hoods will be furnished with a flame baffle)

2.06Finish: Pipe, guides and bracket plates will be coated with a flat black prime paint.

2.07Operation: Doors will be operated by means of (manual push-up) (chain hoist with gray cast iron gears)

(awning crank), (wall crank box) (motor operation).

2.08Automatic Closing Device will be thermally actuated by means of a fusible link rated @ 165 degrees F.

2.09a Governor will be furnished to regulate the rate of descent of door. It will be the escapement type which is not engaged during normal door operation, but which after tension release, will retard the speed during automatic door closure to under

2' per second.

2.09b (Optional viscous fluid speed governor is available. Will retard the speed during automatic door closure to under 2' per second.)

2.10Label: Rolling fire doors up to 162 sq. ft and 13'6" in width or 12'0" in height will bear the 34 (three-quarter) hour, 112 (one and one-half) hour, 3 (three) hour label or 4 (four) hour label. Rolling fire doors will be manufactured in strict accordance with the requirements of Underwriters’ Laboratories-listed procedures, Factory Mutual-approved procedures, standard 4100 (1990), and will bear their label.

F.M. label is available for the 3-hour fire door only.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01Install the rolling fire doors in accordance with Wayne-Dalton Corp. instructions and standards, and in accordance with the standards of the National Fire Protection Association Standard #80 (NFPA 80). Installation and maintenance will only be by an authorized Wayne-Dalton representative.

3.02Testing: Rolling steel fire doors will be tested and witnessed, attesting to their successful operation at the time of installation.

3.03Maintenance: Per NFPA 80: All horizontal or vertical sliding and rolling fire doors shall be inspected and tested annually to check for proper operation and full closure. Resetting of the release mechanism shall be done in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. A written record shall be maintained and be made available to the authority having jurisdiction.
