5. CORRECT USE

5-3. Installing the needle

CAUTION

Turn off the power switch before installing the needle, otherwise the machine may operate if the start switch is pressed by mistake, which could result in injury.

Use only Schmetz DO x 558 Nm80 - Nm120 needles.

1.Raise the finger guard (1).

2.Loosen the screw (2), and then remove the needle

(3).

3.Insert the new needle (3) as far as it will go so that the groove is facing toward you.

4.Securely tighten the screw (2).

5.Remove the work clamp plates. (Refer to page 26.) Note: After removing the work clamp plates, check that the index mark (4) on the machine head is aligned with the index mark (5) on the looper base before inserting the needle (3) (when the

looper base is turned fully to the right).

6.Lower the finger guard (1).

Thread the upper thread as shown in the illustration below. * Use the accessory needle threader (1).
