INTRODUCTION | VW TO CLARION CD CHANGER ADAPTER |
The Clarion CAVW1 is a electronic serial data | MODEL: |
translator specifically created for interface with | CAVW1 |
VW factory radios (not pre-wired with a changer |
cable). The CAVW1 allows the OEM factory |
radio to control a Clarion CD Changer’s opera- |
tions and audio signals.
PRECAUTIONS:
•Before installation, disconnect the (–) negative lead from the vehicle’s battery.
•Always wear protective eyewear when using tools.
•Use extreme caution when drilling around electrical wiring, brake lines, and fuel lines. Check clearances on both sides of a planned installation surface before drilling any holes or installing any screws.
•If a fuse needs replacement, use the same value as the original. Do not substitute anoth- er rating.
INSTALLATION:
1. Remove the factory radio from dash.
NOTE: This adapter is not designed to plug into the OEM data cable located in the trunk. If your vehicle is prewired with the factory data cable, use CAVW2 for this application.
2.Route the changer’s cable (supplied with the Clarion CD Changer) from the radio open- ing to the planned changer location.
3.Mount the Clarion CD Changer in the rear compartment using the accessories supplied with the changer (see the changer instruction sheet for mounting procedures and details). Once mounted, plug the changer’s cable (13-pin DIN) into the side of the Clarion CD Changer.
4.At the radio opening, plug the Clarion’s changer cable (13-pin DIN) into the CAVW1. Plug the CAVW1’s connector into the back of the factory radio.
5.Reconnect the negative (-) ground terminal to the battery.
NOTE: When the magazine is first inserted; the changer must complete one cycle before try- ing to access the CD mode. If the CD button is pressed before the cycle is complete; reset the CD changer by pressing the AM/FM button or turn the radio OFF then back ON.
6.Turn the car’s ignition switch to the "on" position. Turn the radio on and press the CD button on the factory radio. Function test the radio’s CD functions to confirm proper operation.
7.Replace any panels removed while routing the changer’s cable and re-install the facto- ry radio and/or any dash components.
OPERATION:
Consult your factory OEM manual for details on radio/changer controls and operations.
