Beamwidth

The axial directivity factor Rθ (formerly Q) of the HP640 horn was computed at each one-third-octave center frequency from the horizontal/vertical polars. The graph in Figure 2 illustrates this data over the range 500 Hz to 20 kHz.The axial frequency response of the HP640 with a particular driver is in close correspondence to that driver’s power response above 1 kHz.

A plot of the HP640’s 6-dB-down total included beamwidth angle is shown in Figure 3 for each one-third-octave center frequency. The horizontal beamwidth is maintained at 60° (+10°, -10°) over the range 500 Hz to 20 kHz. Vertical beamwidth control occurs only above 1.5 kHz because of the relatively short vertical dimension of the horn’s mouth.

HP640 specifications

The Electro-Voice HP640 is a high-performance loudspeaker designed to meet the demanding standards of both professional and semi-professional audio environments. This powerful speaker is renowned for its advanced engineering, innovative technologies, and exceptional sound quality, making it a popular choice for concert venues, event spaces, and mobile sound reinforcement.

One of the main features of the HP640 is its impressive power handling capability. With a continuous power rating of 300 watts and a peak handling of up to 1200 watts, this speaker can easily handle high sound pressure levels without compromising audio clarity or distortion. The high-efficiency design allows for maximum output, ensuring that every note and beat is reproduced with precision and depth.

The HP640 utilizes a custom-designed 6.5-inch woofer that provides deep bass response and an expansive frequency range. This woofer is paired with a 1-inch titanium-dome compression driver, which ensures crisp, clear high frequencies. The combination of these drivers allows the HP640 to deliver a frequency response of 60 Hz to 20 kHz, making it suitable for a variety of musical genres and audio applications.

Another notable technology incorporated into the HP640 is the Waveguide Control. This feature ensures uniform coverage across a wide listening area, reducing the typical drop-off in sound quality experienced at the edges of the listening field. The waveguide design optimizes high-frequency dispersion, allowing for clear vocal reproduction and detailed sound even at significant distances from the speaker.

Additionally, the HP640 is built with durable components and materials, making it road-ready for touring applications. The robust cabinet construction minimizes vibration and resonance, while the powder-coated steel grille offers protection for the drivers. Whether mounted on stands or used in a stacked configuration, the HP640’s design promotes stability and reliability in various performance situations.

Portability is another key aspect of the HP640. Weighing in at a manageable size, it is easy to transport, making it an ideal choice for mobile DJs and event production companies. With user-friendly connection options, including XLR and 1/4-inch inputs, the HP640 can be easily integrated into existing audio systems.

In conclusion, the Electro-Voice HP640 stands out as a versatile, high-performance loudspeaker that combines powerful sound output with advanced audio technologies. Its robust design, exceptional sound quality, and ease of use make it an excellent choice for professionals seeking reliable performance in any setting.
