Variable power levels add flexibility to microwave cooking. The power levels on the microwave oven can be compared to the surface units on a range.

Each power level gives you microwave energy a certain percent of the time. Power level 7 is microwave energy 70% of the time. Power level 3 is energy 30% of the time. Most cooking will be done on High (power level 10) which gives you 100% power. Power level 10 will cook faster but food may need more frequent stirring, rotating or turning over. A lower setting will cook more evenly and need less stirring or rotating of the food. Some foods may have better flavor, texture or appearance if one of the lower settings is used. Use

a lower power level when cooking foods that have a tendency to boil over, such as scalloped potatoes.

Rest periods (when the microwave energy cycles off) give time for the food to “equalize” or transfer heat to the inside of the food. An example of this is shown with power level 3—the defrost cycle. If microwave energy did not cycle off, the outside of the food would cook before the inside was defrosted.

Here are some examples of uses for various power levels:

High 10: Fish, bacon, vegetables, boiling liquids.

Med-High 7: Gentle cooking of meat and poultry; baking casseroles and reheating.

Medium 5: Slow cooking and tenderizing for stews and less tender cuts of meat.

Low 2 or 3: Defrosting; simmering; delicate sauces.

Warm 1: Keeping food warm; softening butter.

PEM31 specifications

The GE PEM31 is an advanced industrial gas turbine developed by General Electric, designed to provide high-efficiency power generation with remarkable environmental performance. This gas turbine is part of GE’s Energy division and represents a significant advancement in turbine technology, reflecting industry demands for reliability, efficiency, and reduced emissions.

One of the standout features of the GE PEM31 is its ability to achieve high thermal efficiency, which is crucial for maximizing energy output while minimizing fuel consumption. Employing advanced aerodynamics and thermodynamic cycle techniques, the PEM31 operates effectively across a wide range of conditions. This feature makes it versatile, suitable for various applications in both simple and combined cycle plants.

The turbine integrates state-of-the-art materials and manufacturing processes, including advanced composites and heat-resistant alloys, which contribute to its operational reliability. These materials allow the PEM31 to withstand extreme temperatures and stresses, resulting in a longer operational life and reduced maintenance requirements. Furthermore, the turbine’s design emphasizes modularity, enabling easier and faster installation and servicing.

Another key characteristic of the GE PEM31 is its innovative combustion technology. The gas turbine employs dry low emissions (DLE) technology, which significantly reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions without the need for additional external control measures. This makes the PEM31 compliant with stringent environmental regulations while enhancing its attractiveness for use in areas with strict air quality standards.

The turbine is equipped with GE’s digital solutions, leveraging advanced analytics and predictive maintenance capabilities. These technologies provide real-time monitoring and performance optimization, enabling operators to anticipate issues before they escalate, thereby enhancing overall system reliability and efficiency.

Additionally, the PEM31 supports multi-fuel operation, allowing it to run on various types of fuel, including natural gas and liquid fuels. This flexibility is particularly valuable for operators seeking to adapt to changing energy markets and fuel availability.

In summary, the GE PEM31 gas turbine embodies the latest advancements in power generation technology. Its combination of high efficiency, robust design, reduced emissions, and digital integration positions it as a leading choice for modern power plants aiming to enhance both operational performance and environmental stewardship. As energy demands continue to grow, turbines like the PEM31 play a crucial role in transitioning towards a more sustainable energy future.
