FREQUENCY RESPONSE This measurement is useful in

determining how accurately a given enclosure reproduces an input signal. The frequency response of the SPª Subcompact 18 is measured at 1 meter using a 2.82 volt swept-sine input. As shown in Figure 1, the selected driver in the SPª Subcompact 18 gives a smooth frequency response from 47 Hz to 190 Hz.

POWER HANDLING

There are many different approaches to power handling ratings. Peavey Electronics rates this unitÕs system power handling using a modified form of the AES Standard 2-1984. Utilizing audio band limited (20 Hz - 20 kHz) pink noise with peaks over four times the RMS level. This strenuous test signal assures the user that every portion of this system can withstand todayÕs high technology music. The test

signal contains large amounts of very low frequency energy, effectively simulating the frequency content of live music situations. The full measure of high frequencies in the test signal allows for exposure of the speaker system to synthesized tones that may extend beyond audibility. This rating is contingent on having a minimum of 3 dB of amplifier headroom available to ensure that clipping does not occur.

MOUNTING

Caution: The SPª Subcompact 18 is not designed to be suspended overhead.

18 specifications

The Peavey 18 is an influential loudspeaker that has been designed for high-performance audio applications, known for its powerful bass response and robust build quality. This subwoofer is a crucial part of Peavey's professional audio lineup, often utilized in live sound setups, dance music events, and large venue installations.

One of the main features of the Peavey 18 is its impressive 18-inch woofer. This driver is engineered to handle high power levels while delivering deep and punchy low frequencies. The woofer is typically mounted in a well-constructed cabinet that enhances the projection of bass frequencies, making it an ideal choice for a variety of musical genres.

In terms of power handling, the Peavey 18 subwoofer is capable of handling substantial wattage, often rated for around 1000 watts RMS. This capability allows it to produce loud sound levels without distortion, critical for professional audio applications. Coupled with a high-efficiency design, the Peavey 18 maximizes the sound output, ensuring that the lower frequencies are tight and clear even at high volumes.

The cabinet construction is another noteworthy aspect of the Peavey 18. Built from durable, heavy-duty materials, the enclosure is designed to withstand the rigors of transport and frequent use. Many models feature reinforced corners and rubber feet to protect against damage during setup and teardown. Some versions also include an integrated grill to shield the speaker cone from accidental impacts.

The Peavey 18 incorporates advanced technologies to optimize performance. This includes the use of a vented design to allow for better airflow around the woofer. Such ventilation helps to reduce heat buildup, thus ensuring reliability during prolonged use. The speaker often features an internal crossover network that helps manage frequency distribution between the subwoofer and other speakers in the system.

Additionally, the Peavey 18 is compatible with various amplifiers and sound systems, allowing for flexibility in setups. Its lightweight design, relative to its capabilities, makes it easier for sound engineers to transport and position the speaker within various venues.

Overall, the Peavey 18 combines durability, power, and sound quality, making it a preferred choice for professionals in the audio industry looking to deliver high-impact bass and overall excellent audio performance. Whether it's for live performances, DJ events, or permanent installations, the Peavey 18 stands out as a reliable option that meets and exceeds expectations.
