WATER SOFTENER CONTAINER (MODEL D3251FIWS ONLY)
To determine the water hardness in your area, contact your local water utility or area water softening company. Twelve grains and higher is extremely hard water and you may need to use a water softener to maximize the performance of your dishwasher.
FILLING THE SOFTENER CONTAINER
If you decide you need a water softener, fill the softener container with salt as follows:
1.Unscrew and remove the container cover.
2.Place the funnel supplied with the dishwasher into the fill hole.
3.Pour in approximately 4 cups (1 litre) of water.
4.Pour in about 3 pounds (1.5 kg) of coarse salt or special dishwasher salt.
5.Wipe away excess salt so the cover can be properly screwed into place.
6.Run a Normal wash program so that any salt in the machine is rinsed out.
WARNING!
Never pour dishwasher detergent into the softener container. It will ruin the water softener.

REFILLING THE CONTAINER
When the salt container needs to be refilled, the softener refill indicator light on the control panel will come on (see page 8). Follow the instructions above (“Filling the Softener Container”), except for adding water. That only needs to be done the first time you add salt.
After you have refilled the container, there may be a slight delay before the indicator light goes off.
SETTING WATER HARDNESS
The dishwasher is delivered with the low water hardness setting, so you may need to reset it. To do this, follow the steps below:
1.Turn off the power to the dishwasher.
2.Hold down the Start/Stop button while you press the Power button to turn the machine back on.
3.Release the Start/Stop button.
4.Press the program button one to six times, depending on the hardness of the water.
With each press of the Program button, a program indicator light will come on. Using the table below, determine the setting you need.
5.When the appropriate symbols are lit, press the Start/ Stop button to store the setting.
